Introduction to Flight Dynamics Operations

Flight Dynamics Operations (FDO) is a mission critical component of the full Spacecraft Mission Operations. Fundamentally, FDO is responsible for the navigation and guidance of the spacecraft to ensure the mission orbit is achieved and maintained. FD functions include Orbit Determination (OD) to determine the spacecraft orbital state, trajectory design, and maneuver planning to achieve target mission or maintenance requirements. FDO supports other operations components by providing data products based on various orbital information such as station visibilities, lighting conditions, etc. FDO must also ingest and provide information external to the Mission Operations team, including ground station acquisition and tracking data, and collision avoidance data. This training course will scratch the surface of Flight Dynamics Operations, and will function as a primer for more detailed training courses for the different flight dynamics subdisciplines that need to be analyzed, designed, implemented, tested, and finally, operated.
